Each year, the Elementary level of Vanguard School participates in a Reading Marathon for the World Book and Copyright Day *. The Elementary is committed to having students, staff and parents read without interruption throughout the day.
There are many possibilities: having older students read stories to younger students or vice versa, picture books being read by adults or students at different locations on our floor, using an audio station to listen to books, having a reading relay in a team, inviting parents to read to a class or a small group, etc.
The challenge is to ensure that every minute of the day, including lunch and daycare is spent reading. This marathon is in the form of a relay between students, classes and adults.
* April 23 was declared the World Book and Copyright Day by UNESCO in October 1995.
