Mission / Vision / Values
Mission
Mobilize financial resources to provide Vanguard School with the means to achieve its objectives. Through fundraising and the search for financial support, we promote its unique expertise in teaching students with severe learning disabilities.
Vision
To become a solid and sustainable financial pillar for Vanguard School, guaranteeing the resources needed to propel its expertise, promote its know-how in Quebec and offer more students the means to succeed.
Values
COMMITMENT: We are fully committed to the school’s mission and objectives.
COLLABORATION: We rely on cooperation with our stakeholders to achieve our common goals.
TRANSPARENCY: We report clearly on our decisions and finances.
ACCOUNTABILITY: We ensure that our management is rigorous and compliant with legislation.
Why donate?
Vanguard School devotes all its resources to its educational mission: to provide specialized teaching, in accordance with the programs of the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, to elementary and secondary students – in both French and English – living with severe learning disabilities.
The Vanguard Foundation complements these programs by supporting everything that goes beyond this fundamental mission, for which the ministry’s own funds cannot be used. In particular, it offers bursaries to families, develops innovative educational projects, improves school infrastructures and promotes access to culture and the arts.
Giving to the Foundation means making a concrete investment in accessibility, equity and success for young people who need a suitable environment to flourish.
By investing today in our young people with learning disabilities, you are encouraging their education, preventing them from dropping out, and fostering the development of productive, fulfilled young citizens for our society.
- In Quebec, the dropout rate is one of the highest in the country;
- The cost of dropping out represents $1.9 billion/year for Quebec society;
- 40% of dropouts have a learning disability;
- 2/3 of students with difficulties in high school don’t graduate!

Many ways to contribute
Give to Support Our Mission
- Your general donation directly supports the mission of the Vanguard Foundation, helping to provide quality learning opportunities, fund innovative projects and help our students realize their potential.
Make a Dedicated
Gift to a Specific Project
- If you have a particular organizational value for innovation, scholarships for needy families or any other specific project, you can choose to make a dedicated donation. This targeted support makes it possible to fund specific initiatives that contribute directly to the evolution and development of our School.
Establish Pay-As-You-Go for Your Company’s Employees
- If you’re an employer, you can set up a Pay-As-You-Go program for your company’s employees. This simple gesture enables your employees to contribute directly to the Vanguard Foundation, with the possibility of tax deductions, while promoting collective commitment within your organization.
Participate in the Foundation’s annual golf tournament as a player or sponsor
- The Vanguard Foundation’s annual golf tournament is a key event for supporting our initiatives. By purchasing a foursome, becoming a sponsor or donating a product for our silent auction, you not only enable your team to participate in this event, but also directly fund essential projects for our school.
Contribute products or services to the Foundation
- The Foundation also accepts donations of products or services (consultations, educational materials, etc.), which can alleviate our expenses and enable funds to be allocated to priority projects.
Honor the memory of a loved one
- When a loved one passes away, the Vanguard Foundation offers you the opportunity to comfort the family in a very personal way. By making an In Memoriam donation, you pay tribute to the deceased with a meaningful gesture, and support Vanguard School in its mission to help young people with learning disabilities. When you make an In Memoriam donation, the Vanguard Foundation acknowledges your sympathy by sending a personalized condolence card in your name to the family. The amount of the donation is never disclosed. The donor will receive a tax receipt from the Vanguard Foundation.
In Memoriam Bursaries
In tribute to Thuy Bui, a dedicated teacher and exceptional woman, the Thuy Bui Scholarship recognizes Vanguard School students in Secondary 4 who have distinguished themselves through excellence in mathematics, despite the challenges associated with learning disabilities.
Through this scholarship, the Bui family wishes to honor Thuy’s memory by supporting her passion for mathematics, intellectual rigor and academic perseverance. She firmly believed that, with the right encouragement, every young person can shine and achieve his or her full potential.
BROCHURE – THUY BUI BURSARY
In tribute to Samira Gaudreau, a talented and passionate artist
artist, the Vanguard Foundation and the Clinique des yeux de Laval have joined forces to offer a unique opportunity to young artistic talent from the Vanguard School.
The Samira Gaudreau Art Scholarship aims to perpetuate her legacy by supporting young artistic talent in their expression and development through art.
In addition to the annual competition, the funds raised will contribute to the realization of art projects at Vanguard School, specially designed for students with severe learning disabilities.
#07_2025-03-24_Brochure-bourse-Samira-Gaudreau-ENGIn honor of Joshua Goldsmith, a Vanguard School graduate who focused on his strengths in mathematics and overcame his obstacles. The Vanguard Foundation is proud to present the Rapoport-Goldsmith Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes a Vanguard Secondary 5 student, secteuranglophone, who has distinguished himself through excellence in mathematics and who intends to pursue his studies in science, despite the difficulties associated with his learning disabilities.

Testimonial from a former student
My name is Georgia Kiriakos, and I have a learning disability.
As most people will tell you, school was extremely difficult for me. By the time I reached the 6th grade, we discovered that I had a learning disability. For high school, I came to Vanguard School knowing that this school would help me. Of course, academics were still difficult, but I was determined to succeed and was happy to learn. I succeeded by graduating from Vanguard School and following my dream to become a teacher. I wanted to give back to the community that helped me get further. Thank you, Vanguard School!
Today, I am a teacher at Vanguard School, helping students understand that life with a learning disability simply means taking the scenic route to our destination!
Georgia Kiriakos is a Cycle 1 high school teacher at Vanguard School and a director on the board of the Vanguard School Alumni Association.
Thank you for supporting student retention and educational success.
Thank you for supporting the Vanguard Foundation!
